Origin
The belt features distinct horizontal bands of intricate, geometric supplementary weft brocade. These repeating hourglass, diamond, and chevron patterns are filled with sharp blocks of yellow, white, magenta, and purple thread, typical of the regional style.Based on the vibrant green background, multicolored geometric brocade, and the elaborate pom pom tassels. While many regions use standard fringe, these dramatic, oversized pom-poms are highly characteristic of traditional festive and ceremonial belts from Sololá and neighboring San Antonio Palopó.
This piece is especially striking as a decorative wall hanging, where its vibrant colors and tassels can be fully appreciated.
